A useful list is not a drawer where you stack videos by thematic similarity.
It's a sequence.
And that difference changes the role of your entire catalog. Many channels create lists like someone organizing files to feel organized. What the viewer needs is something else: a journey that saves them from searching too much and allows them to move forward with clear logic.
The mistake of putting together lists by simple topic is that the topic does not always coincide with the best order of consumption. A new viewer may not need everything you have on a topic. You need to start with the piece that best introduces you, move on to the piece that answers the next question, and then go deeper. If you throw a horizontal mountain of videos at him, you don't help him. You force him to choose cold.
Look at this: a good sequence accompanies. Think entry lists, deepening lists, lists to solve a complete problem, lists to understand your proposal. It changes a lot. The list stops being an archive and becomes architecture. An organized channel like this works better even when you don't post anything new.
One creator had useful videos, but his lists were thematic piles with no path criteria. The viewer came in, saw six more or less related titles and didn't know which one to follow. The list seemed organized from the creator's side. From the user's side, it was another small maze.
The real villain is comfortable disorder. That mixture of laziness and self-indulgence that leaves the viewer to decide on their own what the channel could translate much better. If you've already done the hard work of producing the pieces, don't waste the final experience by not getting things in order.
Create lists by objective, not just by label. Check the order as if you were accompanying someone who doesn't know you. Ask which piece opens best, which confirms value, which goes deeper, and which is redundant within that sequence. This logic multiplies the performance of the catalog without the need for magic.
